My goodness, does it ever fly by quickly! My baby just turned ONE! For his birthday we did a DIY winter forest theme. I wanted to do something unique and on a budget that worked well with the winter wonderland going on outside.
The Cake: I honestly found this cake at Lawblaws (as I'm a major procrastinator when it comes to personal projects and waited too long to order a proper cake from a local baker.) I always recommend going local and helping out small businesses though. I found the little moose topper at Walmart of all places (in the garden section), and added some gold candles. It's sitting on on a large tree slice coster I nabbed at home sense last year. I imagine it would be easy to just make one yourself if you are handy with a chain saw and sander.
For the decor, I got a long table, dishes some lovely pearl white balloons from Cody Party Centre. I tied tree branches to them, and added more tree branches (pine, evergreen...etc) to the table for texture and colour. I placed a few lanterns (Ikea) and gold deer antlers (Michaels) around as well.
I had this light-up birch tree from home sense. I hung some baby pictures and key chain favours (From Michaels) from the branches. I also had the loot bags for the little ones resting at the bottom in nice white bags from the dollar store.
Vegan desert options were available for my vegan friends and family!
Thank you for taking the time to go through this post! Feel free to leave any comments bellow!
With the help of Slavi Photography, I was able to document our afternoon decorating our Christmas tree. I have such a soft spot for lifestyle images, especially ones that are more natural and authentic! I can't wait to get these printed and include them in our ever growing family albums! I hope everyone finds special moments with their little ones and families this holiday season. <3
Nice, natural light, some simple props, a comfy couch & some cuddles with your little one is all it takes to get some epically sweet & personal images. Lifestyle sessions are all about capturing your little one(s)/family in a natural setting. If you have children who maybe get too uncomfortable in a studio setting or you simply want to capture raw & personal family images in the comfort of your own home, then this option could be perfect for you!
It's that time of year, and one of my favourite times at that! Fall mini sessions are just around the corner & I know how much is stresses some people out to find the perfect outfits for their session. I've decided to put together a post filled with inspiration and tips so that you can get the most out of your investment.
There is no need to find clothes that really match each other (ie: everyone wearing a plaid shirt and jeans). Don't be afraid to mix it up and add more layers and textures to break up the outfits. I find that images look the most polished & have more personality when the outfits are more expressive. Check out THESE OUTFITS so you have an idea of what I'm talking about.
Keep Colour Pallets In Mind
Sticking with a Fall Colour Pallet is a great way to ensure that your outfit pieces really coordinate with one another. You want to stick with one or two accent colours and then some neutral colours with each outfit (Not all outfits need to be the same colour as long as they are apart of the same pallet).
Build Around an Accent Piece
Find one article of clothing you absolutely love, such as a scarf, boots, dress, bow tie or wool vest and build your outfit selections around that. It will give you a place to start and you will find it way easier to pick and choose the rest of your pieces.
Why is Your Home Decor Important to Think About?
If you plan on putting up images or canvases of your family photos, you want to make sure it compliments the room you are placing it in. It's just a nice thing to keep in mind while choosing the colours for your outfits!
It's Fall & It's Probably Cold
This is another reason why you will benefit from layers. Make sure yourself & your little ones are dresses warmly so that they aren't freezing during their session. It's hard to capture smiles while teeth are chattering ;) Find cozy & stylish sweaters, scarves and coats to bundle everyone in.
